After this, you can explore Hanoi at your own leisure, or maybe get accustomed to the pace of life here at a café.

Eat breakfast and prepare yourself for your tour of Hanoi. We start this when the guide arrives at your hotel to pick you up and take you in your private vehicle to the first of our stops, the Ho Chi Minh Complex.

Here, everything about the country’s great modern leader is revered, so this is a great place to get a better understanding of the man who led Vietnam through two turbulent wars in the 20th century. We have a selection of places we can visit here, including the mausoleum where his embalmed body is kept, his former stilt house where he retained the image of a humble life, and Ba Dinh Square, where he delivered his address to his newly independent nation in 1945.

After seeing these attractions, we move onto our next, which will be one of the fantastic museums in Hanoi. Take your pick between the Vietnam Military History Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Hoa Lo Prison Museum or the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, all of which focus on a different and fascinating aspect of Vietnamese history or culture.

We will have a delicious lunch in a local restaurant to rest our feet for a while, before moving onto the ancient and beautiful Temple of Literature. This was Vietnam’s first university, built in 1070 and teaching the philosophies of the great Confucius. Students would study in the temple at the back as well as in the wonderful garden between the proud stone walls.

Our tour today finishes with a walk around the Old Quarter, where our guide will point out sites of intrigue, of which there are many. The historic centre of Hanoi has been built up over centuries, with layers of history plastered across the vivid walls, something our guide can reveal to you before leaving you to relax at your hotel afterwards. After breakfast, we begin our drive to Sapa from your hotel lobby in Hanoi. This is around a 5-hour drive, including stops for scenic photos and breaks along the way.

We arrive in Sapa in the early afternoon and take our first meal in the hill region, a wonderful lunch. We check you into the hotel and then head to the nearby village of Cat Cat, where we can see some of Sapa’s incredible nature.

Upon our arrival in Cat Cat, we will find beautifully verdant shades of green rolling over the hilltops and mountains around us. The humble wooden gate and buildings of the village offer a welcome simplicity in this uncomplicated region, as will the smiling faces of the locals, all of whom are part of the distinct Black H’mong ethnic group.

We return to Sapa town and spend the rest of the afternoon and evening here, soaking up the fresh atmosphere of this mountainous region.

Take breakfast at your hotel in Sapa before we move south of the town, soon finding ourselves within the magnificent Muong Hoa Valley. From its peak, we can see the best of natural Sapa, found in soaring limestone peaks, tree-topped hills and rice paddies rippling down to the valley floor. 

We descend into the picture-perfect scenery and make our way around the vibrant rice fields, eventually arriving at our first stop today, Lao Chai. We speak to more Black H’mong locals here to further learn about their customs, before continuing onwards through more breath-taking beauty.

Once we arrive at Ta Van village, we can take a rest and lunch in a local house. The residents of Ta Van are part of the Giay minority, who have highly individual customs that we can learn more about over lunch.

Wave goodbye to our host family and continue a short distance up the path until we join the main road. The driver will be waiting for us here with our private vehicle, so we will climb in and enjoy a highly scenic drive back to Sapa, followed by the return drive to Hanoi. End of 2 day tour in Sapa.

Morning

Rise for breakfast in the morning before the driver picks you up from your Hanoi hotel. The drive to Bai Tu Long Bay begins here, ending about 4 hours later in the northeast corner of the country.

Here, we find our traditional yet modern boat waiting for us and board it to begin our 2-day, 1-night cruise in Bai Tu Long Bay. We will soon see the first limestone islands and beachy outcrops of Bai Tu Long Bay, forming the eastern route of Halong Bay and boasting the same world-famous scenery without the tourist attention.

Afternoon

Absorb this new atmosphere of serenity during lunch on board, which will be served in the panoramic-view dining room. After this, feel free to relax at your will, either on the sundeck or in your new cabin, as we wind around the powerful karst rocks dressed in the forest.

We make our first stop at Cap La Island, a wonderfully quiet area where we can kayak and swim in peace. Watch the kites soaring above as we find our own freedom in the shimmering water of the bay.

Evening

After this, we return to the boat and continue the great atmosphere at a party on the top deck, when the happy hour and a gorgeous red sunset will only add to the good vibrations. A cooking demonstration from our chef will pave the way for a gorgeous moonlit dinner, which in turn will give way to a star-studded evening in the silent bay.

Wake up early this morning and enjoy a tai chi session on the sundeck. This is a great way to relax your body and mind ahead of the day, which will continue with breakfast downstairs.

We begin our cruising as we head out towards Thien Canh Son Cave, which reveals the geological history of the bay. Once arrived, we take a walking tour of the inside, finding fantastic rock formations steeped in natural beauty and local legend. 

Return to the boat and enjoy your final few hours of cruising as we make our way back to the harbour. A delectable and filling brunch will be served during this time, which we can enjoy before stepping off the boat and taking the transfer back to Hanoi.

You will be dropped off at your hotel for your final night in Vietnam’s capital.
