Bac Ha Market is one of the most special places in the Sapa region, and a single visit to this weekly gathering will bring to life the colourful traditions of Vietnam’s ethnic groups. This is something we offer to you on our Bac Ha Market 1 Day Group Tour, a full-day, guided exploration of Bac Ha and its outer attractions.
Around the famous market, visitors can find a whirlwind of colour and wide grins splashed across the faces of locals. This is a joyous and highly communal meeting point for many of the ethnic groups scattered around the Sapa region, many of whom go long periods without seeing their friends or extended family. After lunch at the market, we visit the incredible H’mong King’s Palace, followed by a trip to Ban Pho village before your drop-off in Sapa town.
Activities: Have breakfast in Lao Cai before transferring to Bac Ha Market, after which we will have lunch and proceed to the fabulous H’mong King’s Palace and the humble village of Ban Pho before dropping you off in Sapa town.
Walk out of the exit gate of Lao Cai Train Station after your overnight train from Hanoi. Our guide will meet you here and introduce themselves over breakfast, along with explaining the itinerary of our day tour to Bac Ha Market.
We drive to Bac Ha Market after this and soak up the ecstatic energy to be found here. Bac Ha is still a highly local market of huge significance to the ethnic groups who visit it every Sunday, bringing all of their produce and handicrafts to sell to tourists and other locals alike. We stroll leisurely around the market in the morning, admiring the colourful dress of the ethnic groups in attendance and browsing the merchandise that many vendors have trekked, sometimes for multiple days, to sell at Bac Ha.
After a thorough look around each of the sections of the market, and once you are satisfied with your highly unique purchases, we can sit down here for a local lunch. Following this, we make our transfer to the H’mong King’s Palace, the exquisite former resident of King Hoang A Tuong, who lived in this east meets west-style castle. We explore the inside with its many fortifications, along with the Gothic-style outside and the fabulous gardens.
Following this, we make our final stop of the Bac Ha Market 1 Day Group Tour at Ban Pho village, just a short walk away from the palace. Here, we find plenty of smiling residents and many workshops making corn wine, a special export of Ban Pho and a big source of pride for the locals.
We end the tour in the late afternoon with the transfer to Sapa, where you can continue your explorations of Vietnam’s beautiful north.
This brings the 1 Day Group Tour to Bac Ha Market to a close. We thank you for joining us and we hope to see you back in Sapa at some point in the future!
