Activities: Explore the majestic temple complex of Angkor Wat and an evening tuk-tuk tour of Siem Reap.

Eat breakfast in your hotel and prepare for one of the highlights of your tour – an exploration of the resplendent Angkor Wat.

Our departure time is an early one to ensure that we avoid the crowds. We begin at Ta Prohm, one of the most famous temple ruins of Angkor Wat due to its featuring in the Tomb Raider movie. The beautiful temple is an evocative state of ruin, with jungle vines creeping through dismantled walls and gateways. We explore around here for a while, enjoying the exquisite merging of ancient architecture and lush nature.

We follow this with a trip to Angkor Wat's main temple, reachable by a bridge over a lotus-filled pond. The stunning temple is the icon of the entire complex and a breath-taking ambassador for the beauty found throughout it. We climb upstairs, head through tunnels and find remarkable, antique ornaments carved out of stone.

We will break for lunch, where you can choose from the many options around the complex. After this, we continue onto another of Angkor's greatest achievements, Angkor Thom, an entire city carved out of stone that acted as the capital of the Khmer empire from the 12th century. We head to some of the best temples within the city, including the 216 lifelike faces of King Jayavarman VII at Bayon Temple, along with the Elephant Terrace, Royal Palace and Temple of the Leper King.

After returning to the hotel and resting our feet for a while, the guide will meet you and take you on a tuk-tuk tour of Siem Reap. We drive around for a while, noting the beautiful sites and the attractive buzz of activity that engulfs the town every evening. Walking through the night markets, we find many interesting aspects of culture and food, eventually sitting down for dinner and a drink at a local beer garden.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Dinner

 Notes:
There is also the option of having our dinner (without drink) at the Crystal Restaurant, which comes in set-menu form and accompanied by a traditional Apsara dance.

Angkor-Wat

Activities: Head to a village in the countryside to ride an ox cart and see how handicrafts are made, before a lazy cruise on Tonle Sap Lake and the flight to Hanoi.

Enjoy your breakfast in Siem Reap again before the driver arrives and takes us to the outskirts of Siem Reap, where we find a lovely village nestled amongst the rice paddies.

Life in Cambodia's countryside is very different from that of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, so a walk through here will be a good chance to learn of how Cambodia’s millions of rural residents live on a daily basis. We can take a ride in an ox-driven cart along the rice paddies for 30 minutes, giving you and the kids the chance to live the farmers' life, before arriving at a local workshop to see how rice wine and handicrafts are made.

We continue to Tonle Sap Lake, where we will arrive shortly afterwards. At the lake's shores, we board a motorised boat, which will take us along the flat surface and give us the opportunity to gaze at the verdant hills surrounding it. Before long, we reach the colourful silt houses of Me Chrey village, where we can find excellent views of the wetland vegetation around.

Cruising around Tonle Sap Lake, we find utter serenity in its wide expanses. We continue to enjoy this for the rest of the morning, during which time you can try kayaking at an additional cost, before arriving at the shore and taking the transfer back to Siem Reap.

Here, we will have lunch and you will have some time to relax. Our driver will arrive in the afternoon to take you to the airport, from where your flight to Hanoi will leave. Arrive in the Vietnamese capital and take the following transfer to your hotel in the central district.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Me-Chrey-Village

Activities: Enjoy a city tour of Hanoi with visits to its most famous sites and a cyclo tour around the Old Quarter.

Rise for your first breakfast in Vietnam and prepare for an exploration of its capital of strong traditions. Your new guide will introduce themselves before we head over to the Ho Chi Minh Complex, an area of buildings devoted to the memory of the great wartime president of Vietnam. On a visit to his former stilt house and the mausoleum, we can see where Ho Chi Minh lived his later years and where his body is now embalmed. A look around Ba Dinh Square will reveal the area where the leader gave his speech after toppling the French and claiming independence for his country.

Following this, we decide on a museum that is most suitable for you and your family and make our way over there. To choose from, there is the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the Vietnam Military History Museum, The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and Hoa Lo Prison Museum.

Once we have looked around one of these museums, we take a rest with lunch at a local restaurant.

After this, we move onto the Temple of Literature, where we can discover the heavily Vietnamese aesthetic of the architecture and carefully manicured gardens. This was Vietnam’s first university, built in 1070, now a relic to the country’s ancient system of studying Confucian philosophies.

Our full-day tour finishes in Hanoi Old Quarter, Hanoi’s beating heart and the location for its liveliest atmosphere. A cyclo (a cart attached to a bicycle) will take us around the narrow streets of Hanoi Old Quarter, where you may not be able to take your eyes off the constant flow of action around you.

The tour ends at your hotel and you end the Hanoi City Tour Day Tour. Stay overnight in Hanoi.

This very special enclave is one of the last of its kind in Halong Bay – a colourful collection of floating houses atop wooden barges, tethered together in the shadows of overarching limestone mountains. A local will take us around here on a sampan boat, or we have the chance to kayak at our own leisure.
