When is the best time to visit Hoi An?

  Feb 21, 2023

  By Thao Le

Hoi An is an old town located in Quang Nam province, Vietnam. Because of the influence of the climate in the central region, there are two distinct seasons in the year of Hoi An: the rainy season and the dry season. The year-round temperature fluctuates around 29 degrees Celsius, which is very cool and comfortable. Therefore, the best time to visit Hoi An for their holidays to Vietnam is during the dry season.

When is the best time to visit Hoi An?

Dry season

The dry season in Hoi An lasts from February to August. The summer months of June through August are the warmest, with frequent highs of 35 °C (95 °F). The ideal months to visit Hoi An are February through April when it's the driest of the year. Low humidity and moderate temperatures are typical phenomena during those months.

The dry season is unquestionably the ideal time to visit Hoi An, as the low humidity, bright sunlight, and little rainfall make it easy for tourists to travel to various locations and engage in outdoor activities. In particular, Hoi An's mild and pleasant winter months of February through April are the best times to visit.

Wet season

Hoi An's wet season lasts from September to January. Especially in October and November, there are often strong downpours that might be accompanied by typhoons and flooding. The best time to visit Hoi An is not in these months.

September through January is considered the rainy season. During the rainy season, there are frequent periods of heavy rain, typhoons, and occasionally floods. In Hoi An, this is the off-peak period. Keep an eye on the Hoi An weather prediction if you plan to travel at this time.

Festive season: Hoi An Lantern Festival

The Hoi An lantern festival is conducted from 6 p.m. until around 10 p.m. on the fourteenth day of the lunar month when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. In order to enjoy the sunset and supper before the glistening, multicolored lanterns steal the show, many guests decide to arrive early, frequently before 6 p.m. The event is observed throughout the historic town, especially in the neighborhoods close to the Hoai River, the Japanese Covered Bridge, and Hoi Bridge. Hoi An Ancient Village is stunning on this particular night as a result of the enchanted lantern light. You may participate in a variety of cultural events and let lanterns float down the poetic Hoai River while you take in Hoi An's splendor at night. Hence, the best time to visit Hoi An could fall into the middle of the lunar month.

Seasonal recommendations for visiting Hoi An

In the dry season

To prevent exposure to direct sunlight, don't forget to pack light, protective clothing, hats, sunglasses, and umbrellas.

To protect your skin, don't forget to use moisturizer and sunscreen.

For a variety of fun water activities, don't forget to pack swimming attire.

In Hoi An, the dry season is prime time. As a result, you ought to reserve your travel and lodging as soon as you can.

In the wet season

Never forget to carry your raincoat, umbrella, waterproof shoes, hat, and waterproof bag for electronics.

To organize your vacation, always check the weather forecast.

If you think you could become sick from the rain, pack some essential medications.

High heels should not be worn when walking on slick surfaces.

What to eat in Hoi An

Banh Mi

The word "Banh Mi" might not be unfamiliar to foreigners when visiting Vietnam because this is one of the most convenient and tasty foods for Vietnamese people. When it comes to Hoi An, Banh Mi has its own distinct flavor and taste. The bread is crunchy yet soft inside. The juicy and salty meat is combined with fresh and pickled vegetables to make an interesting taste that will whet your appetite.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk

Vietnamese in general are in love with coffee. So if you are a coffee fanatic, you should not miss the chance to taste the flavor of the authentic and original coffee. Vietnamese coffee can be served in several ways; however, iced coffee served with condensed milk is the choice of many visitors. To enjoy the coffee and get its best taste, a small metal drip filter is commonly used. You whisk the coffee and condensed milk in the cup after the drip has stopped, then pour it into an ice-filled glass and savor it.

Mi Quang (Quang Seafood Noodle)

Quang noodles are a popular noodle dish from Quang Nam Province. This is different from other noodles due to the little broth in it and the addition of a lot of greens and herbs, which makes it suitable for summer when it’s too hot to eat a big bowl of hot broth. Different restaurants and homes prepare Quang noodle dishes differently, but a typical bowl of Quang contains toppings such as eggs, marinated pork, and shrimp.

Banh Xeo

Banh Xeo, or sizzling pancake, gets its name from the cooking process because of the loud sizzling sound it makes when pouring the rice batter into the hot pan. This delicacy could be found across Vietnam, but Hoi An locals have their own recipe to make it different. The size of a pancake in Central Vietnam is a more manageable 14 of a dinner plate.

I have no doubt that the delicious flavor of the crispy crust, savory contents, and sweet and sour dipping sauce will make you fall in love with this treat as soon as you take a mouthful. In addition, the sauce has the ideal ratio of spices (including fish sauce, sugar, lime juice, garlic, and chili), and the herbs serve to mask the flavor of grease.
