Ninh Binh is located in Northern Vietnam and it is one of the must- things to visit for travelers visiting Vietnam. We suggest you visit Ninh Binh from middle of September to the end of November and from March to April.
+ From the middle of September to the end of November:
We suggest this time because this time is the Autumn season in Hanoi so the weather is very cool. It is not hot anymore and it is not cold like December to February. The temperature this time is about 23oC. By the way, September to October is the rice season for North Vietnam so you may take the nice photos of the rice fields and see people working on the farm.
Tam Coc
+ From March to April:
This time of the year is the Spring Season so it is not really cold anymore. You may bring a warm coat with you in March in case the weather changes but normally, you can wear a thin jacket. The temperature this time is about 200C in March and about 250C in April. At the end of April it will get warmer and warmer then it will get hot in May.
From March to April, it is also a good time for the rice fields. This time of the year is not the harvest time of rice but the rice is fields are filled with the green color of the young rice and you may take nice photos with good weather. In March, humidity is high but in April it the sky is clearer.
This time of the year, you may take a boat trip in Tam Coc and there is rice field along the trip. In Tam Coc, there is only one rice season in one year so do not miss this chance. The best place for taking photos is Hang Mua Peak where you can take photos of Tam Coc and the surrounding area.

For people hunting photos, they may not care much about the weather and they want to visit Ninh Binh in the best time for the beautiful photos. We suggest the best time for the landscape from May to June and from September to October.
May to June:
May to June is the best time to visit Ninh Binh for the best photos. That is the time for harvesting the rice in Ninh Binh. And in Tam Coc where there is only 1 rice season per year, this time is the best time for beautiful photos. You can take a boat trip along the river and seeing local harvesting rice and carry the rice back home by boat. You will be amazed by their skill of boat rowing by feet – not by hands.
From Hang Mua Peak, you can take many photos of Tam Coc Rice Fields and boat trip. That is awesome.
This time of the year, the sky is blue and clear but it is the hot season in North Vietnam and the temperature can raise up to 360C. That is not good weather for travelling outside and you may get tired when you travel. Please bring a raincoat with you as that is also the rainy season.
September to Oct:
September to October is the wet rice season for most of the places in Ninh Binh ( not Tam Coc). So that is a good time for taking photos. Luckily, this time of the year, the weather is cool because the hot season has ended so you can enjoy the trip with good weather. September is the end of the typhoon season so there may be typhoons at the beginning of the month so you may travel from the middle of September to Oct.
Ninh Binh is not so far from Hanoi so you may take a day trip or 2 day 1 night. In 1 day in Ninh Binh, you only can visit from 2 to 3 places. That is worth visiting Ninh Binh in 1 day if you do not have much time but 2 day 1night in Ninh Binh is ideal. You can stay in Tam Coc with many good hotels and homestay. There are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops there also.
From Hanoi, you can get to Ninh Binh by bus, motorbike, train or tour
By Motorbike: You can rent a motorbike from Hanoi Old Quarter or your hotel. Just follow Google Map and you can go to Ninh Binh easily in about more than 2 hours. The best time to go by motorbike to Ninh Binh is from September to April when it is not too hot and that is the dry season.
By Train: You can get to Ninh Bih by train. From Hanoi Railway Station, you can get a train to Ninh Binh City then from Ninh Binh City.
By Bus: From Hanoi, there are local bus and luxury bus to Ninh Binh so that is easy to book a bus to Ninh Binh. We advise you to take a luxury bus which you can book from your travel agent or your hotel to Ninh Binh because you can travel with other tourists and that is safer than a local bus which you have to get to the bus station.
