The History of Ta Van Village Sapa

Ta Van village is located in Ta Van commune, Sapa district, Lao Cai province. Ta Van Giay is the village that the Giay ethnic has inhabited for more than 300 years. According to the elders, the earliest family in this village was the San family, then followed by the Vang family, Lu family, and others. This village was known as "Muong Va" in Lao Cai, which means "arm span" in Laotian.


According to legend, this settlement was once home to solely the Tay ethnic group, thus its name. Ta Van Village still has a hilltop known as "pom mo da tay," which translates as "Tay's Tomb Hill."

Xôi ngũ sắc (Five-color sticky rice)

Xôi ngũ sắc was derived from the culture of the Tay, Nung, Thai, and Dao ethnic groups. The main ingredient of sticky rice, it is delicious and fragrant. As well as a little flavor from sticky leaves, the main coloring ingredient for this ethnic dish.

Bánh A Quát

Bánh A Quát is made from glutinous rice, wrapped with chit leaves. When eaten with a typical spice of the Central Highlands.


Khâu Nhục

Khâu Nhục is an indispensable dish on important occasions of the Tay ethnic group. Selected from a large piece of pork belly, stewed, and seasoned with Northern medicine, when eaten, the meat is soft, crispy, and very tough. Sweet, and well worth enjoying.

How to get to Ta Van Village?

Ta Van village is located in Ta Van commune, Sapa district, Lao Cai province, about 8 km to 12km from the center of Sapa town, depending on the route you choose. With this long distance, you have to go by motorbike or car. However, to be able to feel and see all the scenery of this land, it is more reasonable to go by motorbike.


When to get to Ta Van Village?

Ta Van Village is best visited between April and August. The weather at this time of year is ideal for summer vacations with bright days.
