How many ports are there in Halong Bay?

  Feb 17, 2020

  By Vu Linh

Halong Bay is famous on the international level with its beautiful, unique and charming landscape. Recognized as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, Halong Bay is now in the bucket list of every visitor to Vietnam. For that reason, every year Halong Bay receives more and more tourists, the number increased to 6 million travelers in 2019. This figure may make you think that Ha Long Bay is currently too crowded to visit. The definition of “overcrowded” depends on each of us, but the truth is that Halong Bay has had a lot of boats and tourists in recent years. Therefore, travelers are beginning to pay more attention to Halong Bay’s two sister bays named Lan Ha Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. Having 3 bays in total and situated in different locations, of course, you will have different starting points for your Halong Bay Cruises. If you are planning to make your own way to the bay and take the cruise directly at the harbor, you will need to know “How many ports are there in Halong Bay?” to avoid heading to the wrong spot. Vietnam Escape Tours will help you to figure out the number of harbors in Halong Bay. In this article, we will talk about 3 major and biggest ports for cruises: Tuan Chau, Hon Gai, and Got Harbor.

Halong Bay – Tuan Chau Marina

Travelers who want to join a Halong Bay Cruise often reach Tuan Chau Harbor to depart. Tuan Chau Marina is the longest established harbor and the most active port in Halong Bay up to now, it can cater 2000 sea vessels at any time of the day.

Tuan Chau Port is located on the edge of Tuan Chau Island, connected to the mainland by a long bridge. This big port stretches 8 km into Halong Bay and provide a waiting lounge for all companies offering Halong Bay Day Cruise, Halong Bay 2 days cruise or Halong Bay 3 days cruise

How to get to Tuan Chau Marina?

The route to Tuan Chau Harbor from Hanoi takes around 3.5 to 4 hours’ drive, you can travel there by taxi, bus or luxury van. However, most cruises offer their own transfer from Hanoi to Halong Bay and back for their clients already.

Bai Tu Long Bay – Hon Gai Harbor

While Tuan Chau Port is for cruises going to Halong Bay, Hon Gai Pier is the first choice for anyone who wants to join Bai Tu Long Bay Cruises. Located near Bai Chay Bridge, Hon Gai Harbor is very much smaller than Tuan Chau and doesn´t have modern facilities like Tuan Chau because it doesn´t have a huge number of tourists like Tuan Chau Marina. Despite this matter of fact, Hon Gai Pier was built to receive up to two international cruises at the same time. Hon Gai Harbor is less crowded and for travelers who want to explore Bai Tu Long Bay, this is your choice.

How to get to Hon Gai Port?

Since Bai Tu Long Bay is located just 18 km from Halong Bay, it takes us roughly the same time to get there from Hanoi - 3.5 to 4 hours drive.

Lan Ha Bay – Got Pier

Got Pier is located on Cat Hai Island in Hai Phong City and it is one of the popular ways to get to Cat Ba Island. Comparing to Tuan Chau and Hon Gai Harbor, Got Pier is smaller than both of them. If you want to take Lan Ha Bay Cruises, you should start from here. But be careful, don’t mix this port with Dinh Vu Harbor. Dinh Vu is situated nearby, on the mainland, and it is commonly the transportation to move between Hai Phong City and Cat Ba Island.

How far from Hanoi to Got Pier?

Going to Got Harbor is much quicker than going to Tuan Chau or Hon Gai Pier. It takes around half the time – only 2.5 hours to reach the port and start your exciting Lan Ha Bay Cruise.

Besides those 3 biggest ports in Halong Bay, recently they opened one more port named Halong International Cruise Port or also known as the name Sun Group Port.

Halong International Cruise Port

Halong International Cruise Port or Sun Group Pier is a brand new pier located at the center of Bai Chay Tourist Site, on the edge of Halong Bay. This is the first cruise port to receive all international and huge cruises traveling to Halong Bay. Besides the international cruises, this Sun Group Harbor also hosts many domestic cruises traveling to either Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay or Bai Tu Long Bay. This harbor was inspired by the peaceful and picturesque coastal villages of Halong Bay. It excesses the standard of a normal cruise port to become a relaxing, new destination for travelers seeking for an enjoyable trip to Halong Bay.

How to reach Sun Group Pier?

It’s also easy to access Halong International Cruise Port from Hanoi. If you take a package of Halong Bay Cruises from travel companies, they will do a quick transfer on expressway of around 2.5 hours and you will reach Sun Group Harbor to begin the exciting journeys.
