What is Ham Rong Mountain Sapa?

Ham Rong Mountain is also known as Dragon-shaped Mountain or Dragon Jaw Mountain.  Ham Rong is proud of its distinctive traits that are unmatched elsewhere. The mountain, which is directly behind the Sapa Church, is shaped like a dragon with its head raised toward the sky. It is called with the name Ham Rong (Dragon Head) because of its unique appearance.

The legend of Ham Rong Mountain Sapa

The locals still pass down a legend from generation to generation about Ham Rong Mountain. The legend has it that there were a couple of dragons living in the heart of Sapa, among boundless forests. When they were playing one day, a huge flood unexpectedly stroke them. Everything was submerged under the water. The male dragon's strength allowed him to flee, however, the female dragon was extremely drowned. Raising her head toward her companion who was flying to heaven, she sank into the ocean. Her head became the Ham Rong mountain as she grew older, and her body transformed into the magnificent Hoang Lien Son range. Having been so sorrowful to watch his partner sink deep into the water, the male dragon also disappeared and dissolved into the clouds, air, and soil.

Perhaps, that is the reason why the native vegetation here is so green and dense. The mountain now supports a diverse range of plant life. Up to 6000 orchid plants may be found on the ascent of Ham Rong mountain. Along the walks, several wild and unusual flowers, such as cherry blossoms, hydrangea, geraniums, and lilies of the Nile, are also growing. Additionally, you get the opportunity to sample a variety of Sapa fruits, including peaches, plums, and pears. With floating clouds and the echo of the Mong boys' bamboo flute, Ham Rong Mountain appears to be heaven on earth.
