Halong Bay is the World Heritage of Nature that boasts many islets with different shapes and interesting stories behind, including Dau Moi Islet Halong. Situated on Bai Tu Long Bay, Dau Moi Islet Halong is a pretty islet which is wedged between Am Tich Islet and Chopstick Islet. Now let’s explore the beauty as well as the legend of Dau Moi Islet Halong with Vietnam Escape Tours!
The story has it that in the past, people along the coast of Ha Long lived by catching fish and shrimp. Life is very peaceful and simple. Although the people are poor, they always try to stick to the sea and maintain fishing. But one summer, around May and June, suddenly a colony of termites came from the North, biting the fishermen's boats. The number of termites is up to thousands. The queen termite must be 30 feet tall. They continuously bite boats and fisherman's houses, creating a very serious termite disaster. The life of the fisherman fell into a difficult situation. Because there are no boats to go fishing, people have no food. The young and old, the boys and girls in the village become starving and ill. Seeing that the situation was too urgent, a young man in the village bravely fought against the termites. After trying many ways such as using chili, ginger, ... to battle termites without success, he thought of a way to kill the queen termite. After the young man found the termite nest, he killed and beheaded, and threw it into the sea. The head of the queen termite is petrified by salty sea water and becomes a focal stone. Fishermen have boats to go to sea again and locals’ life is peaceful again as before.
