Ban Gioc Waterfalls is one of the most popular tourist sites in Cao Bang province, as well as one of the most photogenic, promising to give you a great experience for your Northern Vietnam trip. If you are interested in this stunning waterfall and want to pay a visit to Cao Bang, read on!

Where is Ban Gioc waterfall and how far is Ban Gioc waterfall from Hanoi?

Ban Gioc Waterfall Cao Bang, Vietnam is located in Dam Thuy Commune (Cao Bang City), which is 335 kilometers from Hanoi. The western side of the waterfall belongs to Vietnam, while the eastern side is affirmed to be owned by China. As a result, the Ban Gioc Waterfall region contains a varied spectrum of indigenous ethnic people's cultural traditions. Thus, this brings you new and appealing experiences when to come here.

Both countries are dedicated to reaping significant economic and tourism advantages from the location. The incredible flow of water cascading dazzlingly through stair-like molds, which seems like a huge mother nature's doorway, is what makes the Ban Gioc Waterfall sight so mesmerizing. This irresistible allure is a key draw for travelers from all over the world.

What to see in Ban Gioc Waterfall Cao Bang?

Ban Gioc's regional area is famous not only for its waterfall but also for its other breathtaking beauty. Don't pass up the opportunity to see the following stunning locations:

Nguom Ngao Cave

The 2144-meter cavern, which is deeply carved into a mountain and is one of Vietnam's most stunning caves, was discovered in 1921. "Nguom Ngao" translates as "tiger" or "cave of the stone valley" in the Tay people's traditional language. Its stalactites, which have been accumulated by dripping water for hundreds of millions of years, would leave a lasting effect.

Thang Hen Lake

Thang Hen Lake is made up of 36 natural lakes that cluster around each other in a mountainous valley bordered by lush trees and gravel meadows. Thang Hen's meaning in Tay stems from "the body of a bee" owing to the lake's curved form. In the morning, you should be amazed by the entire landscape, which is shrouded in mist coming from the turquoise lakes.

Ma Phuc Pass

Ma Phuc mountain pass, located between Tra Linh and Hoa An districts, has acquired fame for its breathtaking beauty. Ma Phuc Pass is also a geologically significant place. Around 260 million years ago, the region was home to several subterranean volcanoes. Volcanic lava erupted abruptly in the cooled ocean, generating overlapping pillows of various sizes and hues. Another spherical black-green rock (knee-bridge basalt) is a remarkable monument to the evolution and transformation of the earth. The pass offers sweeping views of the highlands and endless mountains and woods.

Pac Bo Historical Monument

Pac Bo Historical Monument is located near the Ban Gioc waterfall Cao Bang. The Pac Bo cave, where Uncle Ho stayed and pondered the prospects of a revolution, has been designated a national historical monument. Pac Bo site also contains Lenin stream, Uncle Ho remembrance home, and Lung Lan cave,... Here is the most solid proof of Uncle Ho's simple living, his significant contribution to the war, and his goals for improved civic welfare.

What to Eat When Visiting Ban Gioc Waterfall Cao Bang?

When visiting Ban Gioc Waterfall and its surrounding surroundings, here are the four most suggested cuisines:

Grilled “Aloeswood Fish” (Cá Trầm Hương Nướng)

Grilled “Aloeswood Fish” is a specialty of Ban Gioc- Cao Bang. The fish has firm meat, when grilled, it has a sweet taste and gives off a subtle scent. This is a famous delicious fish in Ban Gioc waterfall, Trung Khanh district (Cao Bang). The fish got its name from its propensity of eating aloeswood leaves and stems. Before grilling, they are properly cleaned with water to remove dirt, packed with spices such as onions, chilies, and dill, then wrapped in banana leaves. When you eat the fish, you may detect the flavor of aloeswood.

Ant’s Egg Cake (Bánh Trứng Kiến)

Ant egg cake is one of the dishes of ethnic minorities in the northeastern mountainous region: Tay Nung Thai. The cake is made from ingredients: eggs of ants and glutinous rice flour. The cake, which is one of the most distinctive cuisines in the Cao Bang mountainous area, is only available from April to May when black garden ants increase fast. People utilize immature ant eggs as the major component, which is covered by mochi and tree leaves. If you're concerned about tainted ingredients, the eggs are usually cooked with onions, peanuts, and pork before being stuffed into the cake.

Cao Bang Steamed Rice Pancake (Bánh Cuốn Cao Bằng)

Cao Bang Steamed Rice Pancake is a dish that when you hear it, you can see it, it is a typical dish that everyone who visits Cao Bang wants to enjoy. Unlike traditional rice pancakes, the Cao Bang alternative is known for its distinctive sauce produced from bone stock. Typically, the bones are simmered for hours before serving, with minced meat and spices added to make it more sweet-smelling than before.

Roasted Suckling Pig  (Lợn Sữa Quay)

Locals should be aware that suckling piglets measuring between 4-6kg are the best option. After preliminary treatment, the pigs are filled with unique medicinal tree leaves, impaled on a roasting spit, covered in honey and spices, and roasted over an open fire. Most people favor medium-well doneness because the pigskin is visually appealing, tastes crunchy, and smells attractively delectable.

Tips for tourists

Because in the highlands, the weather in Cao Bang is quite cold, visitors should bring warm clothes, soft-soled boots, and scarves.  Even in the summer, the highest temperature is only about 32 degrees, and the evening is a bit chilly, so you should still bring a sun jacket. You should also prepare extra tights if you want to wear a skirt.

Although the road is not very close to the zigzag, you still need to bring toys such as coffee, or lemon (bitterly bitter). … to ensure health when traveling to Ban Gioc.

If you go on a trip, you need to bring all the vehicle documents, a good helmet with a windshield, a windbreaker to ride on, etc. If you go on the Cao Bang tour, you don't need to worry at all. You need to bring enough clothes suitable for the season, spare batteries for phones, full cameras, and a little extra medicine.
